  3. How about this for a easy method of Grid Square Calculator?

  7. With all this talk about grids - and getting computers to
  8. figure them etc.  Here is an easy way - and you dont need
  9. no computers or anything - well maybe a peice of paper.

  11. Here's the deal:

  13. How to determine you grid square without a map.
  14.  
  15. You will need your longitude and latitude to the nearest degree.
  16.  
  17. Frist your longitude:
  18.  
  19. 1. Convert the minutes portion of the longitude from minutes to
  20.    decimal by dividing by 60.
  21.  
  22. 2. For North America and locations of West longitude, subtract
  23.    your longitude from 180 degrees.  For location of East
  24.    longitude, add 180 degrees.

  26. 3. Next divide this value by 20.  The whole number result will be
  27.    used to determine the first character fo your grid, as follows:
  28.    0=A, 1=B, 2=C, 3=D, 4=E, 5=F, 6=G, 7=H, 8=I, 9=J, 10=K,
  29.   11=L, 12=M, 13=N, 14=O, 15=P, 16=Q, 17=R, 18=S.

  31. 4. For the third digit, multiply this last number by 10.
  32.    The digit immediately before the decimal point is the third
  33.    digit of your grid.

  35. Now use your latitude.

  37. 1. If your latitude is north, add 90.  If your latitude is South,
  38.    subtract your latitude from 90.
  39.  
  40. 2. Divide this number by 10. The whole number result will be
  41.    used to determine the second character of your grid as follows:
  42.    0=A, 1=B, 2=C, 3=D, 4=E, 5=F, 6=G, 7=H, 8=I, 9=J, 10=K,
  43.   11=L, 12=M, 13=N, 14=0, 15=P, 16=Q, 17=R, 18=S.

  45. 3. Now, multiply this number by 10.  The digit immediately before
  46.    before the decimal point is the fourth digit of your grid.
